Looking Back

May 11, 2014

It is now exactly three years since we left California for France and it is interesting to reflect on how our journey panned out. There have been many ups & downs along the way but on balance I have to say the past three years have been fairly traumatic.

We left San Diego on 11th May 2011, arrived at our new (temporary) apartment in France on the 12th only to find our letting agent had vanished. We eventually took possession on Friday 13th! Quite by coincidence, we took possession of the bungalow in Wales on Friday 13th in 2013 – I wondered at the time whether the Gods were trying to tell us something 🙂

France really didn’t work out for us mainly because our limited knowledge of the language meant we were fairly isolated, June more than me. Then the health issues kicked in meaning we had to move to where we could communicate easily. We were fortunate in having a friend here in Wales help us in finding somewhere to live and assist in coping with the next round of issues. It has also provided the breathing space to allow us to downsize, regroup and prepare for the future.

However, Wales is not right for us so if all goes according to plan (!) we shall be moving to Norfolk soon and we don’t plan on moving again for a long time. We will own our own house again and will have time to mould it to our own requirements. We are looking forward to the next phase of our lives.

I can see that it has been a time of a lot of change and upheaval. Disappointing in a way, that things here in France did not work out for you both in the end. It is understandable though, given that the language can play a major part in how at home you feel.
I really hope that life in the UK in your new home! will be all it should be and all you want it to be xx
