In the beginning

June 23, 2011

Interest in  France first started in 1966 when three friends and I went to the Le Mans 24-hour race in a Vauxhall Viva van and lived for four days on wine, cheese, bread, butter and pate with the odd meal of moules frites and some beer added in. Great time and a taste of the French way of doing things. The trip was repeated in 1970 in a slightly more civilized manner (bus & organized camping courtesy of Page Tours) and included a visit toParis.

Next, we started sailing in the 1980’s and discovered Normandyand Brittany, this was June’s first taste of France and she didn’t take a lot of convincing. In 2002 a business trip to Paris was extended by a long weekend in Vannes exploring the Golfe du Morbihan – now we were really hooked.

Further trips in 2004 and 2007  just added to the desire to make a move so in 2010, having retired from full time work, we made one final investigation trip which was severely disrupted by the Icelandic volcano. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise, we ended up staying with friends instead of  B&B and this expanded our experience of France and the people. We went back to CA and listed the house for sale. Market was awful and it took almost a year to sell but eventually it was done and we were on our way.
